MY STORY

My Story

Live a life worth telling a story about...

Flashback to when I was 5-6 years old: mom and I were headed to the 4th of July parade with a friend of hers in a Volkswagen bus. As we were getting out, I looked over and my mom’s seat was covered in blood. She had uterine fibroids and had hemorrhaged .

That was the first time I understood death and that I could lose my mom. From that moment on, my worst fear in life was losing her. Something that would inevitably happen. I was so full of fear and panic at times and would do anything for her, to make her “invincible.”

So as the years passed by, mom was overweight and I think at that time she had just been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. When she wanted to get in shape I was totally onboard. My memories always took me back to that day. What I saw.

Over the next couple of years while I was still in high school, I began to put connections together that bad foods and lack of exercise made for an unhealthy body. Seems like a no brainer now but at the time, it wasn’t talked about. I began looking at my family and those who ate and drank and were overweight. I noticed a lot of my friends were that way too. I started putting the pieces together and decided what I DID NOT want my life to look like. There were a lot of addicts in my life and I knew I could easily fall into that trap. I worked like hell to not follow in the footsteps of some of my family and friends who had turned to alcohol, drugs or food. Instead, I became a workaholic, but I digress. That’s another story.

I took up cycling both recreational and competitively, going to the gym and quickly learned that strength training was a major component to living a strong and healthy life.

More importantly, I wanted to continue this path to help mom become healthier. I was there during her struggles and I remember feeling helpless not knowing what to do. Therefore, I switched my major and earned my bachelors in Exercise Science and Nutrition to have more answers to help her and others like her. To say I became obsessed with health and fitness is an understatement.

Over the years, I have had my own personal challenges with Hashimotos and currently Costochondritis. I see these challenges as gifts to a more purposeful life to help others like myself.

A Fitness and Personal Development Nerd

As you may have read, one of my core values is constantly learn, always improve. I’m a lifelong learner and love being a student. I proudly call myself a fitness and personal development nerd and a firm believer in the quote “You can only go as far as you can grow.” The more I learn and grow, the more I can help my students.

No matter what your goals are, what your weight is, what your age is, what your confidence level is, what your determination level is; it’s not always going to be easy.  It can be a constant climb to get to the SUMMIT of your mountain, but once you get a handle on it, once you FINALLY make the decision to go for it, the rewards and benefits are so worth the climb.
Consistency plus time will create a radical difference.

She lives by a simple set of CORE VALUES that keep her vision, passion and purpose focused and on track.
  • Stay true to yourself, your integrity, and the responsibility you have for your health. My mom was THE one who always put herself last. Work always came first because she needed to pay the bills. She struggled with life balance and it lead to stress eating, lack of self-care, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. After recognizing I was starting to follow in the same path, staying true to myself and my health is a non-negotiable
  • Have only good days and great days- Everyday on this earth is a good day, what you do with it after that will make it a great day! Have fun, sense of humor, and an attitude of gratitude and counting my wins. This is a reminder for me to do the things I love to do and not get caught up in work all the time…which is still a work in progress
  • Bruce Lee moments – take what you need and disregard the rest- Constantly learn, always improve-
  • Keep Climbin' - in order to accomplish our goals we need to be open to change and step outside of our comfort zone. Often we just need to get our minds right and start taking that imperfect action! Embrace the change, get comfortable with being uncomfortable but most importantly, never give up. Keep going. Keep climbing, keep moving forward
  • Master the Basics – Simplicitiy + Consistency. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest. To succeed we need to master consistency in the basics first. Sometimes we need to have that beginner’s mindset to be able to move forward. And that’s what I teach all of my clients and work on deconstructing the thinking that we always have to do go for the next great thing, when really we need to take a step back and be consistent with the basics.

When not coaching or learning, Rebecca, her husband and their two kids can be found spending time with each other making memories and being PRESENT in each others lives.
